Veerle

Home for Veerle is a re-interpretation of an Antwerp townhouse that has gone through a multitude of renovations. All these testimonies of previous periods were analysed and, if deamed valuable, re-used. The covered terrace is a newly created'room'. We connected the interior with the outside spaces through materiality, a large folding window and a recurring design language.

The re-use of materials unifies the house. The outside bench is in the same concrete as the kitchen island, the shuttered concrete is also used for interior elements, stainless steel for kitchens and more.

Two new stairs; one spiral and one 'classic'. The spiral staircase has an Iroko wood runner and connects the groundfloor with the open plan master floor. The classic two-part build-up runs through the whole house. The start of this one is a concrete massive element on which the iroko wooden part rests. The structural elements are kept visible. The blue steel frame is the basis for the stainless steel handrailing and is used to integrate spots from Occhio.

The bathroom opens up to the dressing by a glass sliding door. The washbasin is a paonazzo marble. We chose this stone because the veins match the colour of the bathroom floor and walls in stuco finish. The bath, shower and toilet are all combined into one 'machine' with the same material finish. The round shapes gives this space privacy without loosing the feeling of openness.

Home office in for Veerle. The wall unit is a made-to-measure shelving unit with open as well as closed storage. The wall unit unifies many of the materials and colours we used throughout the house. The iroko wood combined with stained oak. Soft white panelling and the salmon colour for the upholstery.

The guest rooms and bathrooms are materialised with Iroko, hue green carpentry and dark green tilework. The pattern of the tile work is the crucial design element in these spaces.
