SARAH

Project Sarah is one of those design journeys that results into friendship. Rooted in a shared love of expression, character and whimsy, the interior is uniquely tailored to its owner. Colour, play, art and surprise elements capture the maximalism brought to life throughout the space. The apartment, located in the center of Antwerp, is a duplex situated above Newchild Gallery — the gallery that Sarah originally founded together with Diego Castano and Chandler Noah.

On the lower floor of the apartment, the layout remained unchanged, although it was stripped of the odd transformations it had undergone over the years. The central unit of the wall kitchen was kept, but extended to the full width of the room with the addition of two stainless-steel wall cabinets. We designed a custom range hood and clad it with mirrors to minimize its impact on the wall, allowing for better art integration. At the center stands a rounded triangular island in pink natural stone — a shape designed to invite social interaction while cooking. The kitchen is further enriched with a full-height pear-wood cabinet wall. It includes, among other elements, a bar cabinet that creates a delightful surprise when friends come over.

Upstairs, the same marble tile pattern reappears on a pivoting wall. The choice to work with tiles was deliberate, as the pattern offers a more compelling result. The patchwork and tonal variation create a dynamic quality that solid slabs could not achieve for us. This pivoting panel also functions as a divider between the bathroom and the master bedroom, allowing the client to choose how the space is used — more intimate or ensuite. The dressing corridor and custom bed were rendered in high-gloss lacquer, creating an intriguing and cohesive palette.
