TWO SISTERS

Renovation of two coastal holiday homes on the same plot for two sisters, each with its own unique aesthetic while still being closely related in design. We took special care to create levels of privacy between the two homes through thoughtful placement of windows, entrances, and white wooden dividers. The materiality of both houses is re-used, especially when it comes to the exterior. By changing the direction of the bricks, we created a contrast between the existing volume and the height extension. In addition to this, the back of the main house boasts a covered terrace that is supported by a brick fireplace. Exposed structural beams and supports further enhance this design feature, which is also seen throughout the interior of both homes. In cooperation with VDO-architecten.

The front house has an open plan kitchen and living space, along with a closed-off mudroom for practicality. We've also renovated the entire storey floor, creating a void that stretches all the way up to the roof surface. Colorful tile patterns add a unique touch to each area, creating a holiday-like atmosphere.

While the second house may be smaller in size, this elegant abode has been crafted to maximize every inch of space. We've halved the first floor to create a greater sense of openness, with the spiral staircase taking center stage as the heart of the new interior. With its slender design, the staircase maintains a sense of openness, allowing all functions around it to remain visually connected.
